Active Physics Unit 1 Modified Essay Challenge

  1. Turn-in a set of standalone paragraphs. Paragraph hints:
    1. PARAGRAPHS are organized around one main idea.
    2. The TOPIC SENTENCE often expresses the main idea of the paragraph. Not all paragraphs have a topic sentence.
    3. SUPPORTING SENTENCES from details, facts, statistics or examples.
    4. A CLINCHER SENTENCE pulls detail together and is often used to conclude a long paragraph.
    5. A paragraph has unity. All the sentences work together.
    6. A paragraph has coherence. The supporting ideas are arranged in a logical manner: chronological, spatial, or in order of importance.
    7. The ideas on a paragraph show connection to one another by directing referencing the ideas or using transitional words and phrases.
  2. Each paragraph will explain how an activity (one of the nine in this unit) helps support the premise that the power of the necklace is illusion or reality.
  3. The number of activities examined (paragraphs) will also effect your grade.
    • 4 activities (paragraphs) --> A
    • 3 activities (paragraphs) --> B
    • 2 activities (paragraphs) --> C (this is the minimum)
  4. These paragraphs should represent your best work. Quality affects your grade - quality of reasoning, expression, grammar and syntax.
  5. This work will not be recorded in your notebook. Rough drafts are due 11/12. Finals TBD. Remember this with the test on 11/3 will represent most of your quarter grade!
