Chemistry Unit

Objectives:

  1. Understand the relationship of electron shell configuration to chemical reactivity. Important terms include valence electrons and octet rule (rule of eight) and ions.
  2. Understand the nature of ionic, metallic and covalent bonds and use of the periodic table to predict the likelihood and composition of such chemical bonds.
  3. Use Lewis diagrams to illustrate chemical bonds.
  4. Balance chemical equations with regard to the law of conservation of mass.
