Cell Surfaces
Cell Wall
- Structure - varies with species, up to several µm thick.
- Function - protection, support, defies gravity.
- Resources extracted from cell wall include wood and pectin.
Intercellular Junctions
- Tight junctions - seal to prevent leakage past groups of cells (ex. intestines).
- Desmosome - an anchoring junction that holds cell together.
- Gap junctions - pores between cells allow cytoplasmic communication and transport.
